The most severe of these is <strong>prison<\/strong>\u00a0(imprisonment, detention), which can be <strong>modified<\/strong>. There are also <strong>alternative measures<\/strong>\u00a0to detention (community service, fines, day fines, etc.), and measures to <strong>personalize sentences<\/strong>\u00a0(suspended sentence, adjournment&#8230;).<\/p><p><strong>Symbolic<\/strong>, in that it does not simply arbitrate disputes between individuals, but <strong>defends public order<\/strong>\u00a0and <strong>represses social prohibitions.<\/strong>.<\/p><p>There is no such thing as a &#8220;small&#8221; criminal case: for the litigant,\u00a0<strong>a criminal trial<\/strong>\u00a0is often the only, or the most important, trial of his life.<\/p><p><strong>Alexandre-M.
